Treatment of sensitivity

Treatment Explanation
A sharp pain when drinking something cold, eating something hot or sometimes even when breathing in cold air. Sensitive teeth are a common problem. At Mondzorg Koningstraat we investigate the cause and offer targeted solutions to relieve the pain.

Causes of sensitive teeth

Sensitivity usually occurs due to exposed dentine. This can happen due to receding gums (brushing too hard or inflammation), teeth grinding, wear of the enamel due to acids in food (erosion), or a leaking old filling. Dentine contains small channels that are directly connected to the nerve in the tooth, which explains the rapid pain stimulus.

Treatment options

  • Fluoride or lacquer layer: We apply a protective layer (fluoride or special varnish) to the sensitive necks of the teeth to seal the small channels.
  • Brushing instructions and toothpaste: Sometimes we recommend an adjustment in your brushing technique and the use of a special toothpaste against sensitive teeth.
  • White filling: If a large part of the tooth neck is exposed or worn, we can cover this with a small layer of composite (white filling) for immediate relief and protection.
